Dolphin's Public School, affiliated with the Karnataka Secondary Education Examination Board (KSEAB), recently celebrated Makara Sankranti with great enthusiasm and cultural vibrancy. The festival, which marks the transition of the sun into the Capricorn zodiac (Makara Rashi) and the onset of longer days, was an occasion to honor India's rich traditions and the significance of the harvest season.
The school campus transformed into a festive space filled with joy, tradition, and a spirit of unity. Students, teachers, and staff came together to celebrate the essence of Sankranti, learning about its cultural importance while participating in engaging activities.
The celebration began with students creating beautiful and colorful rangoli patterns at the school entrance, symbolizing prosperity and positivity. The intricate designs added a festive charm to the event, showcasing students' creativity.
A special morning assembly was held, where teachers and students spoke about the cultural and agricultural significance of Makara Sankranti.
Students and teachers dressed in ethnic attire, adding to the festive ambiance. Cultural programs, including folk dances, music performances, and storytelling sessions, showcased the regional traditions associated with the festival. The performances reflected the rich heritage of Karnataka and India as a whole.
As part of the Sankranti tradition, students were given "Ellu-Bella", a special mix of sesame seeds, jaggery, coconut, and peanuts, symbolizing sharing, harmony, and goodwill. The importance of this ritual in fostering relationships and kindness was explained to the students.
